Where the Need Is Greatest
This fund is allocated by volunteers from the community who serve on the MultiCare Health Foundation Board. They decide "where the need is greatest" for the year.
These funds are used by social workers in direct support of patients and families who need a little extra help. It pays for items the patient urgently needs but cannot afford, such as prescriptions, wheelchairs or a cab ride home.
Tree House: A Place for Families
Tree House is a renovated apartment building that gives family members a place to stay while their loved one is hospitalized. (This program is especially important to the parents of fragile newborns who may spend several weeks in Tacoma General's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.) It gives families a place to sleep, shower, prepare a meal and support one another. Rates are on a sliding scale based on ability to pay; no family is turned away.
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
The NICU cares for premature and fragile newborns. This fund helps with the new equipment and technology that can save tiny lives. It also supports the expansion of the facility to provide family-centered care and serve our growing population.
