Our Volunteers Rock!

"My favorite volunteer experience was showing the prospective nursing students around.  It was fun watching them look into their future." - Ray Dines, Good Samaritan Hospital Ambassador

"Mostly I love to walk into a child’s room with one of my dogs and see their faces turn from somber, bored, or in pain into big smiles. I feel that if I can give them or their parents or siblings just one moment, however brief, of forgetting about what they are dealing with, then our job has been a success." - Diana Doolittle, Tacoma General and Mary Bridge Pet Therapy Volunteer

Liaison Spotlight

"Ann does an amazing job of keeping me involved and thanking me after each task or job I complete. She is always encouraging me and helps keep the mood light with her smile and positive attitude."  - Daniel Raschick, Good Samaritan Hospital Volunteer Speaking About PT Liaison, Ann Bador

"Lisa is not just intentional about her expressions of gratitude, but she is genuine.  Her respect and value of volunteers is not just said, but demonstrated through her empowering us to develop plans and materials based on a set theme."      - Charlotte Morris, BRIDGES volunteer on how liaison Lisa Duke helps her feel valued as a volunteer

Flu Shot Documentation

The deadline to turn in your flu shot documentation was Friday, Dec 11th. (Please note that if you received your flu shot at Employee Health they have provided the documentation to Volunteer Services for you).

Receiving a flu shot is required by MultiCare for all staff and volunteers.  If you have not received yours yet or provided documentation to Volunteer Services you are considered not in compliance and have been placed on a temporary leave of absence until documentation of your immunization is provided or until we are notified that we have reached the end of flu season.

Our Employee Health office in Tacoma is still offering the flu immunization free of charge.   The office is located in the basement of Jackson Hall next door to Northwest Labs. Jackson Hall is across the street from Tacoma General hospital at 314 Martin Luther King Jr Way. Their hours of operation are Monday through Friday 7am-3:30pm and open during the noon lunch hour; closed major holidays. No appointment is necessary.

November, 2015

           Volunteer E-Newsletter                                 November, 2015
Our Volunteers Rock!

"I want to provide an ear for those who need to talk or a shoulder to cry on when a patient is afraid. All I need is a simple 'Thank you for visiting. I feel better' from a patient to know that I am in the right place providing the right service." - Bernice Fillmore, Tacoma General Hospital Volunteer and Trainer

“The staff has been wonderful, it’s an excellent program and meeting so many nice folks has made it all worthwhile.”  - Virgil Hulsey, beloved (recently retired) Good Samaritan Hospital Volunteer

Liaison Spotlight

"One person cannot successfully operate the front desk of the hospital and the volunteers play an integral role.  Our volunteers give that extra touch to a patient or family member and add that piece of comfort when they escort them to where they need to be. We could not provide such a personal experience without our volunteers, they are amazing and I love to work with them."          -Heather Hinkel, Information Rep Front Desk at Tacoma General Hospital

From assisting with daily activities in the facility to helping run errands in the community, residents appreciate the one-on-one time the volunteers can provide.  "The volunteers definitely have a positive impact.  It's amazing how much they help." -Stacy Chambers, Program Assistant for Luckett House
